I kissed Jackson, before I entered the building. The morning was like none that I ever experienced. We woke up to breakfast together and then wound up in the shower together. I had never spent a night with a man, that involved waking up the next day like a married one couple, but with Jackson, it happened and it didn’t feel awkward. It felt right.

He ran me to my hotel and allowed me to get clothes and change for my first day at the office. This was bound to pay more than my waitressing gig, so that was something, at least I was making some money and could send money home to the family, to keep the farm running until I got back.

Now that I was at the office, we both knew we had to play things coy. We didn’t want anyone to know that I had slept with the boss and that was why I was there. I approached the front desk. “Hello? May I assist you?” The woman asked. She arched an eyebrow, as if to say who the fuck are you?

“I’m here to meet with Jinny in HR. She’s expecting me. My name is Sadie Calloway.”

She tilted her head. She gave me a quizzical look, which spoke volumes. She already judged me and I hadn’t even spent one day there. She grabbed the phone and dialed an extension. “Uh yeah…it’s Naomi. There’s a Sadie Calloway to see you. Okay. She’s on her way.” She hung up the phone. “She’s in her office. I’ll show you the way.”

She did not look pleased. I followed her through the office building, until we reached a short hallway and she directed me to the door. “Thank you!” I said.

“My pleasure,” she mumbled. She walked away.

I went to the office and knocked, even though the door was ajar. “Come in!” she called out.

I moved into the office. She looked up and greeted me with a welcoming smile. “Hello. It’s nice to meet you.” Jinny stood up and held out her hand for me. I took it and shook it.

“Likewise,” I said.

“I must admit. I was surprised to get Jackson’s call this morning. I have been trying to convince him to hire someone for years. What tricks did you use to convince him?” My jaw dropped. I was stunned. I didn’t even know how to answer her, but luckily she started to laugh. “I’m only teasing, honey. Whatever did the trick, I’m happy it did. Now, I have some paperwork I need you to fill out.”

She started to shuffle the paperwork in front of me. I quickly went through it, because I couldn’t wait to get out on the floor and get some training underway. When I was finished, she needed to make a copy of my license and social security card. I handed it over to her and she made two quick copies. She gave it back to me and I put it away and then we were ready to go out on the floor and I would meet up with the person that was going to train me.
